How to Find a Screenshot You Saved (iPhone and Android, 2026)

You know you took a screenshot of it. A recipe, a pair of shoes, an address, a quote. Now it is somewhere among thousands of other screenshots. Here is how to find it with what is already on your phone, then how to keep the next one from getting lost.

On iPhone

1. Open the Screenshots collection

In the Photos app, find the Screenshots album. Depending on your iOS version it sits under Media Types or under Utilities; if you cannot see it, type "screenshots" into the search in Photos. It shows only screenshots, newest first, which cuts out every photo you took with the camera.

2. Search by words that were in the screenshot

Since iOS 15, iPhone recognizes text inside images with Live Text (iPhone XS, XR and later, per Apple Support). Swipe down on the Home Screen to open Search and type a word you remember from the screenshot, like a brand, a street or a dish. Matching photos can show up in the results.

3. Search by what was in it, or when

The search in Photos understands subjects, places and dates. Try "receipt", "shoes", "October" or the city you were in.

On Android

1. Open the Screenshots album

In Google Photos, open Collections (or Library) and look for the Screenshots album. Your phone's own gallery app usually has one too.

2. Search by words in the screenshot

Google Photos reads text in images with Google Lens. Type a word from the screenshot into the search bar. Putting the phrase in quotes narrows results to exact text matches (Android Authority).

Why it is still hard

These tools search what is visible in the image. They do not know why you took the screenshot, where it came from or what it was for. A screenshot of a TikTok outfit has no link back to the post or the store. A screenshot of a restaurant has no address unless the address was on screen. And if you cannot remember a single word that was in it, text search has nothing to work with.

How to make the next screenshot easy to find

This is the problem we built Sorti for. Sorti is a free app for iPhone and Android that organizes everything you save with AI.

1. **Turn on Auto-Organize Screenshots.** Sorti files new screenshots in the background into categories like Recipes, Shopping, Places and Outfits, with sub-categories that build themselves. 2. **Let it find the source.** For a screenshot with no link, Sorti looks for where it came from: the original post, the store page, the article or the ticket page. 3. **Search by what you remember, not by what was on screen.** Type or say "the pasta place from TikTok", "shoes under $100" or "saved last month". On iPhone you can also say "Hey Siri, search Sorti", and your saves show up in Spotlight. 4. **Save posts and links the same way.** Share a reel, a TikTok or a link to Sorti and it lands in the same library as your screenshots.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find an old screenshot on my iPhone?

Open Photos and find the Screenshots album (under Media Types or Utilities, depending on your iOS version). To search by a word that was in the screenshot, swipe down on the Home Screen and type it; iPhone can match text it recognized with Live Text.

How do I search screenshots by text on Android?

Open Google Photos and type a word from the screenshot into the search bar. Use quotes for an exact match.

Is there an app that organizes screenshots automatically?

Yes. Sorti organizes screenshots automatically with AI on iPhone and Android, finds where they came from, and lets you search by what you remember. It is free.

Why can't I find a screenshot I know I took?

Usually because it is mixed in with every other photo, and the thing you remember (why you took it, where it was from) was never in the image. Filtering to screenshots and searching by text helps; an organizer that files screenshots by meaning helps more.

Download Sorti free on iOS or Android, turn on Auto-Organize Screenshots, and your next screenshot will be where you expect it.
